TelBru Let’s Give Back Visit to KACA
Sunday, 7th March 2010
Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) yesterday lent a helping hand to the Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA) though a cleaning campaign and a donation ceremony held at its branch in Kg Kiulap.
A team of 25 TelBru volunteers set about first thing in the morning to clean the building’s storerooms – where unused items and materials that have accumulated over the months since the storerooms last underwent cleaning were disposed of and re-organized.
The volunteers later proceeded to wash a bus and four-wheel drive vehicle belonging to the association’s Brunei-Muara district branch, which employs six full-time workers.
The branch’s two-storey building, located in the vicinity of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital, was also in need of a new paint job after receiving unwelcome visits from monkeys living in the nearby jungle. Upon hearing about the dilemma from Hj Awg Abdul Alim Hj Awg Othman, KACA’s managing director, the volunteers teamed up to paint over the myriad of primate hand and footprints scattered on the building’s front wall.
“The association relies on the support of volunteers to keep the place functional and in good condition. Public support, as shown by TelBru today, is very important in helping us care for the children,” said Hj Awg Abdul Alim.
The one-day campaign ended with a presentation of a mock cheque worth $2,110.07 from Lim Ming Soon, the General Manager of TelBru’s Product Development, Marketing and Sales Division, to Hj Awg Abdul Alim.
Ming Soon said yesterday’s campaign “was a mark of TelBru’s support for charities and organizations dedicated to noble causes in the country”.
The campaign was part of “Let’s Give Back”, a Corporate Social Responsibility effort by TelBru to help charities and other organizations dedicated to providing support to the disabled, poor and needy through donations and community service works. Under “Let’s Give Back”, TelBru has pledged to help 11 charities across the country this year.
“Let’s Give Back is part of our biggest customer event this year, Let’s Drive, where loyal customers will spend a day together with our staff to enjoy themselves and have fun. With Let’s Give Back, we are not forgetting the less fortunate members of society,” said Ming Soon.
KACA is a non-profit organization established in 1986 to foster the link between the home and the centre to facilitate the full development of children with disabilities. With three branches in Brunei-Muara, Tutong and Belait district, it also serves as an important avenue for promoting public awareness and involvement of the general public in the education and care for children with disabilities.
