In a bid to increase the public's awareness on Metro Ethernet services, Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) as the leading provider of carrier-class transport for private VPN and leased line network in Brunei, yesterday hosted an awareness seminar on "Carrier Ethernet for Business' at Orchid Garden Hotel.
Jointly organised with Alcatel-Lucent, the seminar aims to build awareness on the carrier Ethernet network technology, which is widely recognised for its high-speed data traffic and applications.
The half-day event saw participation from over 100 officers and staff from various ministries and government agencies, representatives from the banking sector, oil and gas industry as well as SMEs.
Mr Victor Zhang, Director of IP Solutions Marketing and Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) APAC Marketing Co-Chair, was specially invited to share his knowledge and expertise with the participants.
In delivering his presentation, Mr Zhang highlighted the features of the Carrier Ethernet network in enhancing security and stability of existing leased line network, in addition to its traditional features.
He also shared with the participants some key points on how Carrier Ethernet helps create real business benefits to health care, finance, education, banking and also the government sectors.

Virtually all networking equipment and hosts connect to the network using Ethernet so using an Ethernet service to interconnect such devices simplifies network operations, administration, management and provisioning.
This technology, in fact, is relevant in supporting across different segment of the sectors, whether it is high-speed data, video, voice or multimedia applications.
Some of the key characteristics of Carrier Ethernet as pointed out by Mr Zhang includes bandwidth scalability of up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet level, flexibility in providing different types of Ethernet connectivity service, detailed SLA/ Reporting, upgradeable bandwidth, secured VPN connection and monitoring feature via customised Customer Online Portal.
