Corporatisation of TelBru

Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) was incorporated on 30 May 2002 under Company Act Cap 39 as a Public Limited Company. TelBru is wholly owned by the Government of Brunei Darussalam.

1 April 2006 marked the corporatisation of Jabatan Telekom Brunei (JTB) to become TelBru. The official launching of TelBru at the International Convention Centre in Berakas was officiated by The Honourable Pehin Orang Kaya
Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Communications.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of documents to transfer the duties of JTB to TelBru and the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AiTi), thus separating the functions of the service provider from the regulator, both of which were previously held by JTB.

As the successor company, TelBru will be the service provider and will deliver info-communication services. All functions, such as applications for services, payments and queries, will still operate and be facilitated from the existing Telecommunication Business Centres. AiTi, on the other hand, is responsible for the licensing, regulation and development of the local Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry and the management of the national radio frequency spectrum.

As a new corporate body, TelBru is confident that it will play an important role providing state–of–the–art and reliable infrastructure and services in support of the nation’s vision.
